What are Scope 1 ,2, 3 emissions?

Modified on Thu, 28 Sep, 2023 at 2:03 AM

You might have come across scope 1,2,3 emissions when reporting on your climate impact, but what exactly is it?

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol works with over 100 countries and cities to help mitigate emissions, report progress toward goal achievement, and estimate the greenhouse gas effects of policies and actions alongside the Paris Climate Accord in 2016.

To facilitate accurate reporting, they have broken down emissions into three areas:

  1. Scope 1 - covers the fuel used in your company. Either by heating buildings or driving company vehicles

  2. Scope 2 - covers the electricity used in your buildings

  3. Scope 3 - covers the emissions released in your supply chain
